MARY DICKINSON EDWARDS

WRITER/EDITOR

BIO

Mary Dickinson Edwards is an accomplished writer and editor with more than 25 years of experience in consumer and trade newspapers and magazines, principally in the high-tech industry. She’s worked both sides of the copy desk as a reporter and editor, honing the skill of condensing events, personalities and ideas into articles that consistently tell highly readable stories. From many years of collaboration with high-tech clients and sources, she has gained technical fluency that she can draw upon when writing about emerging technologies. And along the way she’s become adept at polishing all types of copy, including source material translated into English from German. Mary has contributed to a wide range of writing projects for agency clients including press releases, case studies and web content.

Prior to joining the McKenzie Worldwide team, she was lead editor at VIA, an Oregon-based translation agency. She managed a large team of freelance editors for a web-based editing service that served clients throughout the world, including major German corporations Daimler AG, Beiersdorf and TRUMPF. Her duties included qualifying and hiring editors, managing projects, performing final quality assurance edits, interacting with clients and promoting services with the sales and marketing departments.

Previously, she lived in Heidelberg, Germany, where she became competent in the German language. She also taught English to adults and teenagers through Berlitz, a worldwide language instruction company. She has also served on the staff of several newspapers including the Riverside Press-Enterprise and the Fullerton Daily News Tribune.

Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, cum laude, from California State University, Fullerton. She is a member of the advisory board of the University of Washington Editing Certification Program and belongs to the Northwest Independent Editors Guild.

Mary’s an avid reader, bird-watcher—especially those who visit her feeders—and dog-walker. She also practices yoga regularly to keep her body and mind flexible—an attribute she assiduously avoids, however, when she spies grammar or punctuation errors.
